Gilroy joins the growing list of 87's players landing NCAA commitments

The New Jersey 87's are proud to announce that forward Ryan Gilroy has committed to play Division III hockey at Albertus Magnus College for the 2019-2020 season.

Gilroy is a 20-year-old forward from Wilmington, Delaware and is playing with the 87's EHL team. In 31 games this season, Gilroy has one goal and four assists while establishing himself as a reliable two-way forward. Head coach Adam Houli spoke about Gilroy's accomplishment, and what it means for the team.

"Ryan has been in the junior game for a few years now, has taken his bumps and bruises and came here with a goal in mind to get to that next level. He's put in the work and now he gets a chance to go in the fall and see what he can do at the NCAA level," Houli said. "He was a very raw player coming in, he bought into our system and our work ethic and it has shown. Albertus will get a player that can walk in, give it his all and adapt to their systems. He's very versatile in that sense, and it showed this year as an 87 and now as a future NCAA athlete."

Albertus Magnus is a Division III school located in New Haven, Conn and competes in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The 2019-20 season will be the program's inaugural campaign, and the Falcons will be lead by head coach Kyle Wallack. Gilroy talked about his commitment and what it means to join the program.

"There's a lot of pressure going into your 20-year-old season to find a commitment. Once you do it, it lifts a weight off your shoulders, and I couldn't be happier in joining a school like Albertus Magnus," Gilroy said.

Gilroy played for a couple of different junior teams prior to joining the 87's. He spoke about the organization standing out in his experience and how it helped him land the college commitment.

"This is definitely the best team I've been around. The hockey knowledge, the speed of the game picking up and being able to think faster rather than just taking your time to make plays; it's been fun and I've been learning a lot. I think the team has done a great job preparing me for the college level," Gilroy added.

The 87's organization would like to congratulate Ryan and his family as he prepares to continue his hockey career at the Division III collegiate level.
