Jack McDonough and Sean Carver selected as captains for EHL and Premier teams

The New Jersey 87's have announced the captains and alternates as the EHL and Premier teams head into the home stretch of the season and gear up for playoffs.

EHL

Jack McDonough has been selected as the first ever captain for the 87's EHL team, and will wear the 'C' for the remainder of the season and playoffs. The Doylestown, Pennsylvania native has proven to be an offensive force with 26 points (8g, 18a) in 33 games this season, and head coach Adam Houli spoke about the leadership abilities that earned him the captaincy.

"Jack is the guy that holds everyone accountable in small ways without making it aware to me. I asked the team to name one guy who has held everyone accountable, and it was unanimous that Jack was the guy. We appointed him the captain to make sure that we stay clear and focused at the end of the season," Houli said.

The alternates will be Trevor Cear, Jack Lane and Tim DeBord. Cear was the captain of the 87's Premier team last year while Lane was an alternate, and both players have seamlessly transitioned to the EHL squad this year. Joining them is first-year junior player DeBord, who leads the team in goals with 18. Houli spoke about the different qualities each player brings, and why they deserve to wear the 'A' on their jerseys.

"They all bring a different look at being an assistant captain. Trevor on the back end can help control the bench with the D. He's been around me for two years so he knows how I operate and how I do things," he said.

When (Jack Lane) is going, he's one of our top guys, and he can demand others to play like him and raise their compete level. (Tim) DeBord is a first-year junior hockey player whose work ethic will put him on the radar for Tier II next year. He's also a hard-worker which is something I can rally around on the bench. These are the guys named, and hopefully they can lead us to Providence."

Premier

Sean Carver has been selected as the captain of the Premier team. Playing in his second year with the team, Carver has 18 points (8g, 10a) in 26 games and has shown to be a quarterback on the team's power play.

"Sean is a guy who has been around for a very long time with us, his development has taken leaps and bounds from when he started with us. He works tremendously hard and is a leader both on and off the ice, so we've awarded him with that to lead our team here," Houli said.

Joining him as the alternate captains are Brad Heuer, Joe Guercio and Alex Miller. Heuer leads the team with 41 points in 26 games and is also a Premier team veteran. Guercio and Miller are newcomers to the team, but have both shown leadership traits throughout the season, according to Houli.

"Similar to the EHL, all three of them posses something a little bit different that I think brings a unique dynamic and accountability to our team and I think they look forward to the same goal to lead us to Providence," he said.

Both teams have an upcoming home-and-home series against the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers, including two home games on Sunday with 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. puck drops.
