Three players record multiple points in the 87's first win of 2018

Trevor Cear scored two goals and led the 87's to a 5-2 win on Sunday over the Philadelphia Little Flyers at the Middletown Sports Complex.

The captain was joined by Jack Lane (1g, 2a) and Austin Bell (1g, 1a) in recording multiple points, while Jon Szynalski made 29 saves on 31 shots in the win that improved the 87's record to 19-6-2.

It only took two minutes and 45 seconds for the 87's to get on the board when Cear skated into the offensive zone on a three-on-three rush. Bearing down the left side, he took a wrist shot that beat Flyers' goaltender Ryan Creenan glove side.

Nate Dunning responded for the Flyers with a power-play goal at 13:15 of the first. Starting from his own end, Dunning made several moves around 87's defenders before snapping a sharp-angle shot that beat Szynalski to even the score at one.

With under a minute remaining in the period, Bell gave the 87's the lead once more with a four-on-four goal. Taking the puck from the near half-wall, he cut to the middle and took a shot that went in short side for his 11th goal of the season. He now has four goals in his last three games and seven points (4g, 3a) in a four-game point streak.

Lane extended the lead to 3-1 at 6:35 of the second period. A shot hit off the glass behind the Flyers' net and the puck bounced right to Lane, who stuffed it in from the right side of the goal. With his three-point night, Lane now has a 10-game point scoring streak that dates back to November 15.

Later in the period, Griffin Dublois took a long wrist shot from the point that found its way through traffic and into the back of the net, giving him two goals in as many games. Just over three minutes later, Max McAllister cut the Flyers' deficit in half.

Philadelphia turned up the intensity in the third period, but were unable to get anything else past Szynalski. The Flyers pulled Creenan for the extra attacker, but Cear was able to pick up his second goal of the game by shooting the puck from is own end and into the empty net.

Sunday's game was supposed to be the second part of a back-to-back, but Saturday's game against the Jersey Wildcats was postponed after the first period due to unsafe ice conditions. The game will resume on Monday March 5, as the two teams will play the remaining two periods. The 87's will also start with a 1-0 lead as Kyle DePalma notched his 15th goal of the season on Saturday.

Having won eight of its last 10 games, the 87's will start a string of five consecutive road games this weekend. The team will face New York Applecore on Saturday and will return to New Jersey for a game against the Wildcats on Sunday.
