The 87's extend its winning streak to five games with two wins over the Revolution

The New Jersey 87's extended their winning streak to five games this weekend with two wins against the Philadelphia Revolution, including a 2-1 victory on Saturday and a 6-3 win on Sunday.

Jack Lane and Austin Bell lead the charge with three points each while goaltender Jon Szynalski picked up wins in both games, improving his record with the 87's to 6-3-0.

"We definitely needed a big boost, and those four points we picked up were big. We got on (the Revolution) early, threw hits and made big plays," said Lane, who scored the game-winner in Saturday's 2-1 victory.

He also set up the first goal at 18:17 of the first period, as Bell notched his fifth of the season to give New Jersey the lead. Lane got one of his own at 14:17 of the 2nd period, giving the 87's a two-goal advantage. Nick Giaramita cut the Revolutions' deficit in half with a goal midway through the third period, but Szynalski wouldn't let anything else by him, finishing Saturday night with 26 saves.

Lane, who now has 11 points (3g, 8a) in his last five games, attributes his success to his teammates, including the game-winner he scored on Saturday.

"My linemates do a great job of helping me get the puck, and I really wouldn't be able to do it without them," he said. "Our defense makes good passes out of the neutral zone, and on the game-winner, Timmy (Lazouski) give me a good pass as I shot it top left."

The 87's jumped to an early lead on Sunday, as Bell scored the first of his two goals at 4:06 of the first period. Jared Wagenmann evened the score for Philadelphia, but Bell gave New Jersey the lead once more by notching his second goal of the game with 1:14 left in the first.

"I haven't been scoring a lot lately, so to get a high-scoring weekend like that was good for me and my confidence as well as the team," said Bell, who now has four points in his last three games after going through six games with only two points.

In the second period, New Jersey scored three more goals, coming off the sticks of Braxton Kilgore, Josh Rosenbaum and Antonio Briggs-Blake. The first two were on the power play, while Brigg-Blake snapped a three-game pointless streak with his goal.

"It was a good pass by Chris (Buchanan), I just walked in at the left circle, used the defender as a screen and just shot the puck," Briggs-Blake said of his goal on Sunday.

Jake Ondrejko tacked on one more goal for the 87's and maintained a four-goal lead for much of the period. With just over a minute left in the game, Ian Hibshman recorded Philadelphia's third goal, but it wasn't enough as the 87's improve its record to 4-0-0 against the Revolution.

The 87's will return to home ice for the first time in nearly a month; their last game at Middletown being a 5-3 win against the Jersey Wildcats. It also marked the beginning 87's current five-game winning streak.

On Saturday, they will go up against the last team they lost to, the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers. In the EHLP Showcase in Boston, the Flyers won by a score of 3-1 in two 25-minute halves. Puck drop on Saturday will be at 7:45 p.m., and all of the action will be on hockeytv.com.
